Advice for trade professionals
Are Howdens still open and trading?
To support our trade account holders, and our local communities, our depots remain open with measures in place to serve our customers safely.
We are only operating, where it is safe to do so, and each depot will adhere to the local or national restrictions that apply for that area. You can find your nearest Howdens via our Find A Depot page.
Can I still pay my bill at depot?
You can continue to pay your bill at depot, where it is safe to do so. You can also make a payment over the phone or online via our trade account login system.
To manage your account online, you will need to register your account details, which include your account number and the email address associated with your account. Your local depot can help with these details.

How do I stay safe on the job?
We have gathered these tips to help you, your colleagues, and your customers stay safe on the job:
- Travel separately
Travelling solo will limit contact with colleagues. If this isn’t possible, try travelling with the same people for each journey. Regularly cleaning your vehicle, ensuring it is well ventilated and wearing face coverings is also recommended.
- Manage workers
It is important to allocate the same worker to the same household for each visit and task that is carried out there. This is to limit the number of people your staff and members of that household meet.
- Clean tools
Where possible, tools should not be shared between colleagues to minimise the risk of transmission. If they need to be shared, please ensure tools are cleaned with disinfectant after use and after each job.
- Ventilation
Ensure your working area is well ventilated whilst you are on site, or at a location. This includes keeping doors propped open or keeping a window ajar. By providing a flow of fresh air, you can reduce the risk of transmission.
- Face coverings
When working indoors with other people, a face covering is recommended, and it is important to encourage colleagues to do the same. It is also important to ask any homeowners to wear face coverings when in close proximity.
Can I still carry work out in customers’ homes?

How do I prepare for a home visit during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Whether it is for a kitchen to be installed, or for building and repair work to be carried out in your property, we have gathered these tips to help prepare for a home visit to ensure you, your family, your trade professional and our staff remain safe.
- Clean regularly
In places where work will be carried out or visited, in high-traffic areas, like hallways, and in shared facilities, like toilets, it is important to clean surfaces with disinfectant, before and after your home visit.
- Minimise contact
Limit how much contact your visitor has with objects around your home. For example, keep internal doors open to prevent them touching handles and ask them to supply their own food and drinks.
- Reduce distractions
Getting the job done quickly will reduce the time needed for someone to be in your house. Keeping pets and children occupied in other rooms and limiting close contact to less than 15 minutes will help.
- Self-isolate
If you or a member of your household is self-isolating, it is recommended that work is delayed until after the quarantine period to reduce the risk of infection. It is also recommended that vulnerable members are kept in a separate room while work is completed.
- Ventilation
Wherever and whenever possible, open doors and/or windows to properly ventilate the area where work is carried out and within shared spaces in your home. By providing a flow of fresh air, it can reduce the risk of transmission.
- Face coverings
It is recommended that you, your trade professional, and others within your household wear a face covering when engaging with someone that you do not normally meet with. This is to prevent the spread of infection.
